Reverend Jia Johnson will be the presenter at the Interfaith Criminal Justice Task Force meeting on Wednesday January 19th at 7:30 PM. Jia is an organic connector, advocate and community healer deeply committed to imagining into existence our freedom dreams. She approaches her work of justice-making as a community artist, creating and cultivating authentic community.
Jia currently serves as the Director of the Solidarity Building Initiative for Liberative Carceral Education at McCormick Theological Seminary (Website at https://sbimccormick.org/Integrating). Integrating her corporate experience, intrapreneurial ideation and project management skills with her commitment to public ministry and liberative education, as director she co-creates learning communities and collaborations that tend to the whole of incarcerated learners and their communities. She also services as a consultant for Pathway to Enterprise for Returning Citizens (PERC), and she blogs at jiajohnson.org where she inspires others to lean into their healing journey.
In recent years, Jia developed partnerships with formerly incarcerated entrepreneurs through her work at Sunshine Enterprises and PERC, and served as public ministry engagement coordinator for Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary. She served on the board of directors for Community Renewal Society and chair of their Restoring Rights committee, Center for the Church and the Black Experience at Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary, and was a founding board member for Off the Pews: Faith in Action. Jia holds a Master of Arts in Public Ministry with a concentration in Racial Justice from Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary.
